About Hydronyx
HYDRONYX IS INSPIRED BY EFFICIENCY AND CIRCULARITY
Expanding hydrogen supply, breaking into new markets.
Hydronyx is led by Tom Becker, Ph.D., a geoscientist with more than 20 years of experience in subsurface energy exploration, research, and production for globally-material projects. Enhanced Geologic Hydrogen (EGH) attempts to accelerate a natural process, and identifying and engineering solutions for each component requires wide-aperture and collaboration with an expansive technical community, as well as engagement with stakeholders (regulators, investors, service providers, value chain, community leaders, capacity builders, and more).
Our approach is novel in that we seek to create value from every step of the EGH process, including utilization of waste brine as a chemical feedstock (which is typically injected into shallower subsurface reservoirs) to enhance hydrogen production. Byproduct heat, created by the subsurface serpentinization reaction, expanding hydrogen gas as it rises, and geothermal heat carried by circulating water can be captured and used to run the operation, with any excess supplied as baseload grid power. The goal is to not only provide market-leading unit-cost hydrogen, but to create value in as many ways as possible in the regions we work.
